We cannot save ourselves. The dog cannot blog.

This morning brings us news that there has been an agreement between the USA and DPRK. This may eventually end the official state of war between the UN led coalition and North Korea that has continued longer than I have been on the planet. My father, now in his eighties, was in high school during the Korean War.

But the big delay this morning is that the dog wanted to read the twitter stream himself. Between typing on the keyboard with his nose. Cobberdogs are smart.

The great theme of Galations is against legalism. Turning Christianity into a set of regulations, and preaching if you do this and that, you can make yourself perfect by your own efforts. This is a lie. Like Kim, and Donald, there is much evil that they are trying to fix, but they can not deny it happened. There is a people to be fed, and a society to free. But let not our liberty become some kind of progressive fascism that stifles the gospel, or a set of regulations that mean that it is the virtues of the day that are preached, and not Christ.

Galatians 5:1-15

1For freedom Christ has set us free. Stand firm, therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

2Listen! I, Paul, am telling you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no benefit to you. 3Once again I testify to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obliged to obey the entire law. 4You who want to be justified by the law have cut yourselves off from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. 5For through the Spirit, by faith, we eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. 6For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything; the only thing that counts is faith working through love.

7You were running well; who prevented you from obeying the truth? 8Such persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. 9A little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough. 10I am confident about you in the Lord that you will not think otherwise. But whoever it is that is confusing you will pay the penalty. 11But my friends, why am I still being persecuted if I am still preaching circumcision? In that case the offense of the cross has been removed. 12I wish those who unsettle you would castrate themselves!

13For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for self-indulgence, but through love become slaves to one another. 14For the whole law is summed up in a single commandment, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 15If, however, you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another.

We cannot save ourselves. It is Christ who saves us. It is not thinking we are good, it is knowing that Christ paid for our transgressions, our evil, on the cross.

Consider this, Rocket the Dog truly thinks he is helping me when he sits on the bed and plays with the keyboard. He sees his monkey doing this, and he wants to do it as well. But he types random series of letters. It is not coherent: and this is cute, for he is a dog, and is not to be judged as a man.

But to God our best efforts are akin to the dog trying to hide his toys. Our hearts are desperately wicked. We do not know the depths of our depravity.

Christ saved us. It is not our doing. From now, the equations of our life have to be service and love. It is truth that we need to blog.

And we should not be those who virtue signal, or wish to regulate truth. Do not ally with such. Do not be like them.
